Society Norms in India
Since my childhood, I have been observing quite a few things that are prevailed for many years. These are my personal thoughts and not the judgment for someone.
As girls or women, we are always considered enemies of each other. A female working professional can't see their friend's success. It's also applicable to their personal life. The question which remains unanswered for me is why mothers compare between a girl child and a boy child. Why there is a comparison between a daughter and a son? Why freedom is not equally provided to a daughter as compared to a boy child?
From childhood, girl children have been taught how they need to take care of their things and do household chores along with study or work. If they are not capable of doing these things they are supposed not to be trained by our guardians or parents. Also, most of the time especially, mothers will say they should learn this will help us in their future. Whereas, these advices aren't provided to the boy child. They are in fact, given liberty to live their lives as they wish. There are small things which mothers will usually ignore if they have a boy child.
For example:
For example:
Leave this, I will do this work for you. This is not your work. You should concentrate on other kinds of stuff which are important for you. Why would you do kitchen work, that's not your work?
Mothers usually don't say anything if the guys do not arrange the bed after waking up. It will be all mess and after all either lady from the house has to do it. My question is why so much of things are left for ladies by other ladies only? This is also a question of the mindset of a lady. I have seen many instances, where ladies are asked to do even the smallest thing even if other people would be ideally sitting at home. Is it because their upbringing is like or is it because they enjoy doing it?
I feel this is because of the male dominating society which is also given air by the ladies or women. It should not be a case where ladies have to do all sorts of work including their office work, baby work, household work, training their kids. These should be an equal responsibility of the guy to manage and do all sorts of work.
It's very rare that a few male children will take their responsibilities of their own and will not expect anything from other ones. I have seen them doing all sorts of work (household, office, and etc). They usually raise their points if the ladies are working and taking care of the house, she should be supported on all the fronts. She should be given space at home. She also gets tired as we do. We are not asked to cook and feed children but they are supposed to do because that's the trend which has been set up from generations. Also, this kind of feeling should come from every individual if they want to live a happy life.
For mother in law, it's also quite important to understand even they were a daughter of someone. They should ideally keep their daughters-in-law as their daughters, not as a slave and things she is there to serve all the time. They should teach the male child to be sensible and help each other. Daughters are no like Son these days. They take care of family, earns for them, feed them, understand them, and make sure they do not get into any kind of worse situation. Hence, it's quite important for a male child to sail a boat equally. What will happen if a son will help their wives in other work? We believe that we are partners for the men, is it really true? I do not think so. For them, it's lust. They should understand the development which keeps happening in the female body. There are various things that keep changes like hormones changes, mental stress, physical pain, and etc.
In the midst of this process, there will always be sarcasm by mother in law for women. I always have a question, why one woman is an enemy for another one? Should this suffering happen at all the generations? It has become a habit in Indian Society and nobody is left out.
Being a lady, I feel sad and also feel there should be a stand by all the guys in order to stop this kind of discrimination. Freedom should be equally loved by all.
These are just my ways of saying this.
Thank you.
Good one Swati
